SPONSORSHIP PROPOSAL

We are Team Block based in Southern California..  The purpose of this letter is to seek  a sponsor for our Team in the Eco-Challenge expedition race to be held this year in Fiji. We are one of a selected few Teams to represent the United States.  75 teams from around the world will be participating in this competition.

What is the Eco-Challenge?  It is a multi-discipline, 8-12 day expedition race.  An expedition race relies on teamwork while testing the mental and physical limits of each competitor.  The race runs 24 hours a day, and covers an approximate distance of 500km.  No two races are the same from year to year.  Locations change annually, as do the race disciplines.  The Eco-Challenge in Fiji  will consist of navigation with map and compass, mountain biking, climbing and rappelling with fixed ropes, two forms of water craft travel (rafting and kayaking), and mountaineering.

How does sponsorship of our team benefit your company? The 2002 Eco Challenge will allow a prominently displayed team sponsor name on the mandatory race jersey.  All team members will wear this race jersey for the duration of the race.  This feature will ensure considerable exposure for your company, since approximately 124 million viewers around the world watch the Eco-Challenge annually.  Mark Burnett, the producer of the hit TV series “Survivor” is also the producer of the Eco-Challenge.  2001 Eco-Challenge New Zealand will air on April, 21st  2002.  The competition was previously televised by Discovery Channel and is currently televised by USA Network.  USA Network brings a bigger race budget and more press exposure, first via USANetwork.com, and then a total of four hours in primetime over 2 days in 2002.  Finally, each team is guaranteed airtime when they finish.

In 2001 Eco Challenge was held outside of Queenstown, New Zealand. Team Block was chosen as a featured rookie team for the media. An injury in the first night strengthened the story line and a camera crew was selected and followed Team Block for much of the race to show their adversity. Team Block finished in 7 1/2 days in 27th place showing that pain and injury can be overcome to achieve ones goals. Eco Challenge New Zealand will air in April 2002 and should have a fair amount of coverage of Team Block.

What does it take to be our primary sponsor?  As you can imagine, this will be a costly endeavor.  We are seeking sponsorship in the amount in full or in part of $33,000.
This will include:

         Team Entry Fee                                    $14,500

        Airfare                                                   $9,500

         Accommodations Gear & Equipment *   $2,500

Primal Quest (Outdoor Life Network)    $6,500

Total Eco Challenge 2002 Budget      $33,000

*Gear includes all clothing  with your company logos in as many viewable locations as allowed by Eco Challenge. We will promote your company as sponsor with as much media attention as possible.

There are mandatory personal and mandatory team equipment lists.  Those lists are exclusive to each race and venue.  As you can see by the many different race disciplines, the equipment need is varied and extensive.  This request is our best estimate at this time.

We understand that not all companies will be able to support such a large request however we are accepting any donations and can set up local advertising with our team and your company as requested.

  Who will you be sponsoring?

Each team must be comprised of 4 members, one of which must be of the opposite sex.  The team must stay together during the race, and the team must finish together.  If a team member cannot finish, the team will be disqualified.

We have put together a strong well-diversified team, which will be able to meet the widely varied challenges we will face.  Each team member possesses their own dynamic skills which when combined will create a competitive, well-rounded team.  Team sponsorship could be the opportunity you are looking for.  We have a strong dynamic team with an extensive variety of experience coupled with a desire to compete and win.  Together we can make this the adventure of a lifetime.

Eco Challenge is the world’s premier Expedition Race attracting the best adventure athletes from around the world; it is held in a remote region of the world each year.

Seventy-five, four-person, international teams will converge in South America in 2002.  They will traverse 400 kilometers of  breathtaking terrain using only non-motorized forms of transportation such as mountaineering, horseback riding, mountain biking, kayaking, fixed ropes and pack rafting.

In 1992, Mark Burnett created the Eco-Challenge.  He based his idea on the multi-sport endurance races that had been so popular in New Zealand since the early 80’s and had also started to emerge in Europe.  He lengthened the race, removed assistance crews and added a strong environmental message, reflected in the race rules and associated local service projects.  The first Eco-Challenge attracted 50 teams from six countries and was held in April 1995 in Southeast, Utah, USA.

In the subsequent five years, Eco-Challenge has become the world’s premier Expedition Race and now attracts the attention of the world’s media and best endurance athletes.  Screened globally, since 1996, the Eco-Challenge has annually reached an estimated 144 million homes on five continents in 145 countries, including 72.7 million US homes.  In addition, Eco-Challenge has reached over 700 million readers.
